The Cats Meow stocks independent designers from around Australia. We are always on the lookout for new designs and we love supporting so many creative people doing what they do best. For a sample of just some of the designers we stock feel free to visit our gallery.

So the girls established The Cats Meow 
independent clothing store in August 2002.

Starting with their own principal labels 
-- Kylie's namesake Kylie-Jane 
and Karen's Berserk Clothing 
-- it soon became apparent 
that Melbournian women 
were more than ready to embrace an 
alternative to high end 'labels' 
and chain store clothing. 

The Cats Meow only stocks designers that manufacture in Australia. There are so many wonderful reasons to buy Australian made -- we think about them at the supermarket all the time -- but we often forget about fashion. Buying Australian made clothing ensures high quality and ethical working conditions. It's also a nice feeling to know that you are supporting other Australians. 

So the girls began looking around 
for like-minded designers.

The Cats Meow now represents 
over twenty fashion, accessory and 
textile designers from around Australia. 
Designs range from one-of-a-kind 
hand crafted pieces 
to practical everyday basics.

The Cats Meow makes clothing to fit "real women". Not all of us are meant to be reed thin -- we have curvy bits and lumpy bits and bits we like to hide. At the Cats Meow we work hard to ensure that there is something for everyone, whether you are a size 8 or a size 18 we look for flattering fashions that work on real bodies.

The Cats Meow offers a fashion alternative for women with new stock arriving almost weekly. Because the production runs of our designers are small you don't need to worry that you'll turn up wearing the same outfit as everyone else. You do need to be quick though because we can often only stock one or two of each size so first in is best dressed. 

The Cats Meow cares! Not only do we care that you are happy, we also care that our products are of the highest standard. For that reason we prefer to use or stock natural fibres wherever possible -- cotton, pure wool, linen and denim. We also care that our products are manufactured using registered companies and workers (no 'sweat shops') We hope to create employment opportunities and to support small businesses and we hope you do too.
